X-Mas in Florida United States of America.

The Christmas season and especially Christmas traditions as they are celebrated today have been developed the 19th Century in the United States.

The Santa Claus was hardly known until 1809. Only the writer Washington Irving made the Santa Claus to the main character in his novel. This started slowly the today's image of Santa Claus. At that time he drove a carriage without Reindeers and without a red coat to the children to give them their presents.

The image of today's Santa Claus has its origins in many different traditions that the immigrants brought with them from their home countries to the United States. That Santa Claus slips through the chimney and that his name is "Santa Claus" for example have its origin in the Netherlands. The red coat comes from Scandinavia and the Render sleigh is probably premature lookalike from early processions.

The first preparations for the Christmas season begin with the 1st of December each year. From this date many private houses are decorated with colorful lights at the outside and the first Christmas trees are purchased. Sometimes these trees are already put into the apartments and decorated with sweets and candy.

The gifts for the family are bought and lovingly wrapped from that day on. Another tradition of Christmas: stockings are hanged at the fireplace or the banisters. For these stockings there are special small gifts available in the shops which Santa Claus fills into the socks at Christmas’ night.

These preparations are continued up to 24th of December. Christmas Eve is in America not as important as it is in German-speaking countries. There is also the Christmas Mass in the Holy night in the USA as the beginning of Christmas but the presents are exchanged in the morning of the 25th of December.
In the night before Christmas the children are often allowed to open one little gift before they go to bed. As a bedtime story the parents tell them is often the poem "The Night before Christmas" by Clement C. Moore.

In the night from the 24th to the 25th Santa Claus comes. He put all the big gifts under the Christmas tree and fills the stockings at the fireplace. As a small “thank-you” the children offer Santa Claus milk and cookies so that he can strengthen himself before he continues his trip. For the Reindeers is often placed hay, moss and apple at front of the door.

After Thanksgiving Christmas is one of the main celebrations of the year. On this day the 25th of December everyone of the entire family try to meet each other at dinner and have fun together. The feast for Christmas is roast turkey with vegetables and various sauces. As a dessert for example Christmas pudding with brandy sauce, peppermint pie and pieces of cookies filled with dried fruits is served.

After the delightful Christmas holiday the normal consumer life starts again at 26th of December. Gifts which you do not like or which you found twice under the Christmas tree you can easily exchange. On the other hand you can spend your gift card money because many shops offer a lot of discounts and promotions to attract business in these days after Christmas.

If you are in Florida during the Christmas season enjoy this time under the southern sun.
