Winter festival at Fort Lauderdale 

"Magical Movie Moments" on the Intracoastal Waterway at Fort Lauderdale 

On the 2nd weekend in December the annual boat parade in Fort Lauderdale takes place. This annual Christmas event is organized and performed by local boat owners and local businesses. The beautifully illuminated boats attract each year thousands of visitors on both sides of the Intracoastal Waterway. 

The Winter Festival happens every year on 2nd Weekend in December at Fort Lauderdale. In this year the Seminole Hard Rock Winterfest where the main attraction is the boat parade is already held for the 36th time. The motto for this boat parade is "Magical 
Movie Moments ". All participants in the parade had the task to show the beauty of the Waterway which is a natural canal behind the coast line in their decorations. The decoration shows a mix of traditional such as a Showboat with Florida charm as well as the future - the Wild West Showboat from an energy-saving society.

The parade began at the New River in the center of the city of Fort Lauderdale. The route led from the New River down to the Intracoastal Waterway. Then the way went north into the
Intracoastal past the Hugh Taylor Birch State Park to Lake Santa Barbara in Pompano Beach.

The parade started at 6.30 pm at the starting point. During an hour more than 100 beautifully with colorful lights decorated ships and boats past at the different viewpoints at the route. The motives were Christmas themes or motives Cinema films. On many large ships there were parties. To join the parties on these ships you have to pay and to make reservations.

But the visitors on the Intracoastal Waterway had also their fun, because the party atmosphere of the ships swapped over. At the Birch State Park the people were euphoric and many danced and sang together with the people on the boats when they passed by.

For the duration of the boat parade the drawbridges at the route were locked in an upright position so that the large vessels could pass.

When the parade was finished everyone wished to each other "a Happy Holiday" or "Merry Christmas" and "See you at the next parade." 

For visitors during the Christmas season in Fort Lauderdale this event is a must.
