Florida is a peninsula which separates the Gulf of Mexico from the Atlantic Ocean and therefore the climate is affected from both from the Gulf as well as from the Atlantic Ocean. Because of its subtropical location Florida has a pleasant year-round warm climate. The daytime temperatures in Miami do not fall all year round below 20° C and the sun shines an average of 8 hours a day. The most pleasant time of year is the spring. The temperatures in this season are between 25 to 30 °C. There is a little rain. In summer the temperatures rise above 30 ° C and it is often brief heavy rainfall. The heavy rainfall may result in short term flooding of the roads. In June hurricane season begins and lasts until the end of November. During this time of year it can come to violent hurricanes. These storms are feared because of their destructive power. During such a violent tropical storm a lot of rain comes down and huge gusts of wind tear at houses and trees. These storms reminds of autumn storms in Germany, however, the temperatures during a tropical storm are pleasantly warm. By the end of hurricane season the mild temperatures return again and the rain activity goes down. In extremely rare cases it is possible that cold winter storms blow from the north down to Miami and cools the subtropical temperatures to the upper forties. There are no mountain ranges which could keep away these cold air masses from their journey to the south of Florida.
