Vizcaya in Florida

Vizcaya, Florida, United States of America.

Vizcaya is the most famous museum in Miami. This property was built in 1916 by the industrialist James Deering as a winter residence.

On shopping trips in Europe he purchased many pieces of furniture from different eras and time periods: Renaissance, Baroque, Rococo and Neoclassicism.

He did not have a suitable building for his furniture and therefore he built his villa to show his furniture an ambience from 1916. The idea for the design of this property Deering also brought from Europe. The building is a replica of an Italian country house dating from the 16th Century.

The property consists of residential buildings, a pier in the form of a gondola and a large park. The park is created in accordance with Italian and French garden art but involves indigenous plants of the Florida area.

After the death of the owner the maintenance of the property was no longer private financed and the building and the gardens became run-down. In 1952 Dade County bought the villa, restored it and opened the entire property to the public.

Today Vizcaya is the main attraction in Miami. You can explore the villa and the garden by a brochure or by taking a guided tour. Please note that inside the building you are not allowed to photograph.

The gardens and the terraces and the tea pavilion are excellent background for photos especially for wedding and fashion showings.
