Veterans Day in Florida USA. The Veterans Day is celebrated on 2nd Monday in November. This holiday is based on the Armistice Day of the World War I. This day was meant as a reminder to their fallen comrades and was held for the first time on 11th of November 1919 with regional parades and speeches by politicians and veterans. Today even non-veterans remember the fallen of all wars of the 20th Century on this day at 11 am and stopped working for a moment. In 1938 Congress made Armistice Day to the federal holiday. The renaming of Armistice Day to Veteran’s Day was made by Congress decision in 1953.At that time the Veteran’ Day was still celebrated on the 11th of November. In 1971 President Nixon shifted this holiday on the 2nd Monday in November. Since the introduction of the Veteran’s Day military parades were often held. This tradition has now been replaced by the habit that Veterans of the Vietnam War meet at the Veteran’s Memorial in Washington, DC and put down small gifts and flowers as a memorial to their fallen comrades. At the grave of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington is held a formal ceremony. The Government lay down a wreath at the grave of the unknown soldiers, the curfew is blown and the honor of services at this grave is executed in Guard uniforms. For this day veterans organizations produce paper poppies which are sold on Veteran’s Day and Memorial Day. The collected money of this sale goes to charity funds of the veteran’s organization. The symbol of the poppy is a reminder to Flanders’s Fields in Belgium. Government agencies and banks are closed on this holiday while schools and shops are open.
