Orlando Florida USA. If there is a world capital of amusement then this is Orlando. This city was until the mid 20th Century a sleepy provincial part of Florida which lived from animal husbandry and the cultivation of citrus fruits. In the Mid-60s the economic development of this part of Florida began. The beginning was the nearly 50 miles east of Orlando located Cape Canaveral space station with its rockets base from which mankind explored the space. In 1971 the Walt Disney Group discovered the city of Orlando and built the first theme park of Mickey Mouse in Florida - the Magic Kingdom. Until 2001 this park alone has 300 million visitors. In 2005 Orlando had 50 million park visitors who stayed in about 112,000 beds in and around Orlando. This number is bigger than the hotel bed number in New York. After the Magic Kingdom was finished a very short time later the next Walt Disney parks: Epcot, Disney MGM Studios, Sea World and Discovery Cove were built. Each day of entertainment finds its successful conclusion in displaying a huge firework in each park. This fireworks attraction mostly takes place between 7 and 9 pm. The special event fireworks will be announced in the daily schedules of parks. For night owls Disney offers till late into the night more entertainment at Disney's Pleasure Island. That is a separate park, which opens its doors in the late afternoon to celebrate New Year every night. Besides Disney the film company Universal also discovered Orlando and created with his two entertainment parks - Universal Studios Florida and The Island of Adventure - a counterweight to Disney. In the film studios Universal Orlando the visitor is introduced into the refinements of the film world at the various attractions. The roads in the parks are designed from the real cinema classic films which you certainly recognize. In the Island of Adventure you find a variety of adventure rides and roller coasters which refer to the real cinema thrills. The evening attraction is in this park included. The area - Universal City Walk – belongs to the Universal-Park and is without admission. All other parks which are located in and around of Orlando are also interesting like the Cypress Garden but they are not so well known as the mega parks.
Another interesting day trip is to the Space Coast. It is located about 50 miles east of Orlando direct on the Atlantic Ocean. There in the middle of nature reservations the Kennedy Space Center with its missile launch sites is located. There at the exhibition you can find many old rockets and Space Shuttle on display. In some of these exhibits you can see and feel how cramped an astronaut has to live and to work during his flights. Have fun!
