Usually you need not fear the animals in Florida because these are usually more afraid of you and run away. But do not forget they are all wild animals and no toys so please note the following recommendations: 

When you see a crocodile or alligator especially in a residential area please do not approach the animal. The encounter with these animals could be fatal for you.

If you drive with a boat propeller in the grass land please do not put your hand into the water. You are in the habitat of the alligator and your hand will be regarded as prey. It could then be extremely dangerous for you.

If you are walking through the swamp land in Florida sturdy shoes are recommended. Please walk with hard force in order to give the possibly snakes the opportunity to a timely escape.

A snake usually attacks only if it feels threatened. If you are bitten, however, remember the appearance of the snakes and go immediately to a doctor. Currently in Florida there are only 6 known types of poisonous snake whose bite is usually not fatal but extremely painful.

In addition to snakes there are poisonous spiders and scorpions in the swamps which you should avoid to contact.

Slightly less dangerous mites can be often found in Spanish moss. The Spanish moss hangs from the trees in Florida. When touching the moss you get in contact with the mites. This contact leads to unpleasant skin irritation.

Therefore you should take reasonable precaution when dealing with nature - flora and fauna. For this reason it is much more interesting and healthier just to observe and not to touch.

Other harmless but annoying insects are the mosquitoes. They inhabit the swamps and attack you frequently at night when you are on your hotel balcony to relax. As a precautionary measure we recommend insect repellent such as Autan and other American creams which you can buy in drugstores. For the evening hours there are long pants and long sleeve shirts a good alternative if you are allergic to mosquito pricks.

On the hotel terrace you often have a little friend who fights for you: the Gecko. This small lizard is constantly on the hunt for those little insects. The lizard is very afraid of people and runs away if you come too close.
