Miami in Florida

Miami Florida United States of America.

Miami was founded in1896 as trading post on the Miami River and is today one of the largest trade and economic centers on the east coast of the United States. In addition to the economy facts there are the popular beaches of Miami a magnet for the city which attract many tourists every year.

The heart of the city can be recognized easily. The skyscrapers mark the downtown area. The huge high-rise buildings impress the visitors during the day at night with their architecture and the impressive lights. Next to these buildings you find these historical buildings at the Brickell Avenue from the founding period of Miami.

To get a relaxed look at this big city backdrop the best way is to take a ride on the Metro Mover. This train is a driverless elevated railway built in the 80s which glides through the inner parts of the city.

Between the tall buildings just in the center of them Bayside Market is located. This tourist attraction is a small souvenir and fashion shops area. In the restaurants and bars you get nice food and often live music is played for entertainment.

Directly in front of the Market Place on the water side there is the Miamarina, the yacht harbor of Miami. From this harbor boat tours are departing daily to the artificial islands of celebrities such as Fisher Island. On this island which can only be reached by boat live famous people like Barbara Becker. Such a sightseeing tour lasts 90 minutes and leads into the  Key Biscayne Bay.

Very close to Bayside Market there is the Bayfront Park and the Freedom Tower. Both places are remainder of the recent history.
In Bayfront Park there is a monument in the shape of a peace torch surrounded by flags of South and Central American countries. This monument was built in memory of the President Kennedy’s support during the Cuban missile crisis in 1961.

The second remarkable monument is the Freedom Tower. It is an ocher colored tower which looks like the tower of the Cathedral of Seville in Spain. Previously this building was the home of a newspaper editorial. In the 60s, the tower was a start point for exiled Cubans in Miami when they arrived.
The main attraction of Miami is the Vizcaya Museum. The industrialist James Deering brought from his travels to Europe many pieces of furniture and sculptures of different styles - Renaissance to Neoclassicism. To present his cultural discovery an appropriate framework he built in 1916 a villa in the style of an Italian country house from the 16th Century. In 1952 Dade County acquired this property and it was opened to the public.

This museum has a large garden which is created in accordance with the rules of the Italian and French garden art. Many water games and garden statues completed the beauty of the garden. The garden setting is an ideal place for fashion photography and therefore there are many photo shoots for bridal fashion.

Other interesting points in Miami are Coconut Grove and Coral Gables.
Coconut Grove is the oldest community in Miami and existed since 1750. The center is located at the intersection of Grand Avenue, McFarlane and Main Highway. In the 60s Coconut Grove was a hippie meeting point today is a hip shopping and entertainment district with shops, restaurants and bars. Most interesting time for a visit is on weekends or in the evenings.

One of the most elegant and most expensive cities of Miami is Coral Gables. This district is designed by architect Merrick. His rules for planned architecture and its requirements for this quarter apply still till today. You can find many international architectural styles from French to Chinese. The houses are partly modeled after European village scenes.

Besides the beautiful side of Miami, there are also social hot spots such as Opa-Locka and Little Haiti. As a tourist, you should be very careful when you visit these quarters.
