Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was born on 15th of January 1929 as a son of an African-American Baptist preacher. He was an astute student and graduated in sociology when he was 19. In Chester, Pennsylvania he studied theology for 3 years. He received his doctorate in 1955 from the Boston University. At that time he was already operating as a pastor at the Dexter Avenue Baptist Church in Montgomery, Alabama. As in 1955 in Montgomery, Alabama the civil rights movement was established Martin Luther King soon became a leading personalities. The aim of the civil rights movement was the abolition of legal discrimination such as the lack of suffrage. To achieve his objectives Martin Luther King chose the non violent confrontation which also was successful with Gandhi in India. After 382 days of non-violent resistance the racial segregation laws of Alabama were repealed as unconstitutional.
