Labor Day in Florida USA. The Labor Day will be held on 1st Monday in September. It is already since 1894 according to a Congress decision a National Holiday. Attempts by socialist and communist parties put the Labor Day on 1st of May - like in Europe - were not successful. The first parade for the occasion of Labor Day was held on 5th of September 1882 in New York City. At that time 20,000 workers went with flags and banners onto the street and marched for their claim: "Work for All" and "Eight hours for work, eight hours for rest and eight hours to relax!" down the Broadway. In 1880 the time for working was 10 to 13 hours per day and usually only low-wage basis because of the recession. The labor movement “Knights of Labor” organized the demonstration marches at that time and wanted to get attention to their merits, their achievements and the a corresponding payments for the work. After these demonstrations picnics and parades were held and Irish stew, homemade bread and Apple Pie were offered and fireworks celebrated. In later years speeches from business people and union members were integrated in these events. Demonstrations are now no longer in the focus of the Labor Day events. The families love to spend this day with excursions to amusement parks and to visit a public swimming pool. In many states the Labor Day marked the official end of the summer. After this date the opening times of leisure and amusement parks frequently change. Swimming pools and beaches are preparing for the winter time and in the hotels are off-season prices for overnight stays. For the students begins a new school year at that date.
