Jungle Island - The adventure paradise between Miami and Miami Beach, Florida

The attraction Jungle Island is on left side at the I-395 on the way from Downtown Miami to Miami Beach. The entrance area is called the Sabal Palm Plaza which is surrounded by the Lakeside Cafe, the photo-pickup and the Gift Shop.

In the year 2003 the former parrot park was converted into the Jungle Island. During the renovation the park concept was also redesigned and new animals have been integrated into the park.

Right at the entrance to the park visitors can take a picture with colorful parrots posing in front of a tropical background and in the souvenir shop at the end of the tour the visitor can pick up the photo.

In order not to miss an interesting station in the park it is recommended to follow the marked park path. It leads directly to the first show of the 3 shows in different areas: the Parrot Bowl.

There the pet parrots and the caretaker together tell the audience a little history and a condor demonstrates his flying skills under the tent roof. Anyone who wants can take the chance to participate as a volunteer from the audience in the show.

On the way to the next show place the Serpentarium a smaller path leads through the reinvented habitat of the Everglades. In this site plenty of fish, turtles, herons and even a small alligator could be seen.

At different places along the way you can photograph parrots and cockatoos and feed. Some of these feathered friends try to get your attention with a friendly "Hello".

Near the Serpentarium the penguins have their habitat and liked to pose for a photo. During the show times in the serpentarium arena reptiles and snakes from the surrounding environment are presented. The stars are a cobra and a python which the visitors may hold by themselves.

Behind the arena in an enclosure area lives Hank the Corcosaurus - a huge saltwater crocodile. To recognize the enormous proportions of the crocodile the visitor must look at it from different perspectives.

Next door to the crocodile live its relatives from Florida the alligators. The star in this family in the park is an albino alligator. With a little luck this alligator lays directly at the glass pane and a glance at his pale red eyes and open mouth is possible.

And it goes to the Jungle Theater but not without a stop at the petting barn. There every visitor has the opportunity to touch turtles, goats, pigs and Zebus and feed the baby animals with the bottle.

Passing the kangaroos the visitor comes to the outdoor tiger area. In this area lives another star that zoos: the Liger. This is a mixture between a lion (the father) and a tigress.

This Liger is the largest living cat in the world and it is the king of this jungle. In the center of the park information and film documentaries about this unusual animal are shown while behind a glass shield the Liger presents its beauty.

In the nearby jungle theater 3 times a day demonstrations with some of the pups from the zoo are shown. Besides the demonstrations visitors can learn interesting details about the habitat and the way of life of the animals. At the conclusion of this show each visitor may shoot a photo with his favorite animal friend and take it home.

The last stop in the park is the Flamingo Lake. At this place several dozen of these pink birds are bathing like in a bathroom. It looks cute when the birds move into the water pond – their bathtub - with their long legs then dive into the water like you and I do it in a bathtub and then shake out their feathers again.
The Jungle Island is an attraction in Miami which is not only recommended in bright weather but also on cloudy days. You have so much to see and to enjoy.
