Christmas in July - Easy Riders cuddly teddy bear with a pillion through Miami

On 20th of July 2008 was a big day. The Kids and Families Foundation had invited bikers for a ride through Miami for a good cause. Easy Riders from all over South Florida came and showed their big heart for children.

Is already Christmas? On 20th of July 2008 the participants might get this impression at this event. The Kids and Families Foundation had invited to their annual tour. This tour started at the Harley Davidson branch in North Miami and led down the US441 and the Palmetto Expressway to South Miami to the Tropical Park.

At the start in North Miami the wild rocker met on their heavy machines. Besides the usual number of passengers nearly each bike had a further normally unpermitted 3rd Passenger: a teddy bear. The accompanying police closed at that day both eyes and even accompanied in this spectacle.

Anyone with a motorcycle was invited to ride. There was only a participation fee to pay at the start and for each bike one new, boxed toy like a teddy bear, a doll and other toys must be given as a donation. These gifts had to be delivered at the end of the tour at the Tropical Park to the members of the Kids and Families Foundation.

At Tropical Park the Easy Riders had the opportunity to present their very elaborately decorated motorcycles to the audience. To get the best impression from the awesome motifs such as wolf or eagles the dust of the road and the ride had to be polished away and the bikes had to be put into an attractive position.

Besides the decorative carved motorcycles there were also displayed round about 90 restyled cars. It seems to be a popular hobby for the people here in South Florida to rebuild their cars and style them new. These modifications of the cars were not done to get more speed but to design the car as a piece of art or to improve the vehicle for the protection of the environment. These new styled and designed cars were shown at auto shows and got prizes for their design. Each owner of such a "hot car" liked to present his awarded prizes.

The easiest way to create such a piece of art is to decorate the car with flame or ornaments or pictures. Standard car doors are changed with wing doors or the gasoline engine is replaced by a gas engine. As a supplement or additional power source batteries are often added.

Also the interior gets a new look. The dashboard receives new lamps which blinks and glows in red, blue, green or neon. From the surround sound stereo system blast the latest hits.

At the end of this successful event there was the Rock-Concert where everybody could relax before they went home again.

The event “Christmas in July” is an annual event of the Kids and Families Foundation. This foundation was founded in November 2002 for patients in the Pediatric Hematology / Oncology Clinic of Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. At that time the organizers needed Christmas presents for children with cancer.

Today the foundation collects also money for cancer treatments and rehabilitation after cancer surgeries. These funds go to children of low-income families who could not pay the necessary treatment by themselves.

The gifts collected at this event will be distributed from the foundation Santa Claus at the Christmas celebration in children's hospitals in Miami and the surrounding area.

This from the Kids and Families Foundation organized event gets popular each year and attracts more participants and potential donors. Therefore the Kids and Families Foundation has the opportunity to provide medical, social and educational support to disadvantaged families.
