Baggage in the aircraft.

To visit and to enjoy Florida the clothing for your journey should be appropriate. For example if you just go on vacation leisure clothing such as jeans and T-shirt are the best choice.

If, however, business appointments are planned we recommend a wrinkle free wardrobe, suit or costume in a neutral color.

Please note that most airlines limit the amount of baggage pieces per passenger. The currently allowable baggage pieces often depend on the flying route, the booking class and sometimes even of bonus miles.

Because of fuel prices some United States airlines allow on domestic flights in the Economy class only one piece of luggage. Each additional piece will cost an additional fee. Domestic transportation flights are flights to Canada, Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands.

For international flights from Europe to the United States usually 2 suitcases per person are allowed but with the connected flight within the United States is only one suitcase is free. Some airlines have exemption in conjunction with an international flight. Please contact always your transportation carrier in advance so that there are no bad surprises at the airport.

If the allowed numbers of baggage pieces are exceeded or if you have to transport a particular bulky item you have to pay an additional fee. These pieces of luggage often must be announced at the airline.

If you are accompanied by your four-legged friend you should note that: 

Transportation of animals in the passenger cabin is only permitted under certain conditions 
            - Dogs and cats including carrier box may not exceed 8 Kg 
            - The size of the carrier box may not exceed the dimensions of a piece of
               hand luggage 
            - Transport box must be waterproofed

In compliance with the above requirements the animal is considered as hand baggage and costs no additional fee at some airlines.

Larger animals will need a special transport container which will be transported in the air-conditioned cargo compartment of the aircraft. In this case the animal is an excess baggage and the owner has to pay an appropriate fee. These costs are different at each airline and therefore you have to contact the airline in advance.

Exception: 
The blind and service dogs are often not covered under these requirements. Please check with your airline.

The following articles are not allowed a passenger airplane:

            - Briefcase with technical improvements such as alarm systems 
            - Fireworks and flares 
            - Gases and gas mixtures 
            - Easily flammable substances or substances which react with water 
              or air 
            - Toxic, radioactive or corrosive substances 
            - Magnetic materials

Important and strictly observed: 
Lighters of all kinds are neither allowed in the suitcase nor the hand baggage nor on the body during flights between Europe and the USA.

Please note for your travel to the United States that your bags may not be locked. If necessary the search of the baggage must be possible. If this is not possible because for example you have locked the suitcase the safety authority like the TSA (Transportation Security Administration) are entitled to open the suitcase. Damages will not be reimbursed.

Meanwhile special TSA locks with keys for example or with a number combination are on the market. With these locks you may lock your baggage because the safety authority - TSA - have a special key or number combination to open up your baggage and do the necessary searches. 

To get your suitcase upon the arrival at the airport as quickly as possible conspicuous sticker or baggage tags are recommended. On the address label on your suitcase you should note at least your name and if possible your cell phone number. This will make it much easier to assign and to return the baggage pieces in case of a loss.

In the event that your suitcase on the flight got lost you should act as follows:

            - Report the loss or damage of your luggage immediately and directly on  
               the spot. 
            - As evidence you will receive a written confirmation of your claim from     
               the airline. This contains the transaction number which you can use later
               for follow ups. 
            - You can also check with this transaction number the process of your
               claim online on the Internet. 
            - If you notice damage later - in the hotel or at home - you must be able
               to show that the airline is responsible for the damage to get a
               reimbursement.
